Tristan, I loathe the idea of recommending a chemical solution. But you
have such a small, contained area to fix (2 1/2 x 12 feet) and a problematic
climate in which to employ solarization. Your bed is a candidate for methyl
bromide fumigation.
MB is extremely toxic and must be applied by a certified pesticide
applicator (that's a person or company, not a piece of equipment). The
process involves installing an airtight tent over the treated area and
pumping the MB gas into the tent.
I know nothing more about this process than I have explained here. If
anybody on the List has actual experience with this kind of soil treatment,
please share with all of us.
