To the person asking about anchoring the raised bed frames:
(Cheap ol') I was fortunate enough to locate a source of scrap light timber
prox 2-1/2 & 3 X 3 and I use them with the 3" dimension horizontal and make
4'sq beds 12-15" high, a comfortable height to sit and weed, plant,
harvest. . . . . . . . . .
I cut them 4'-3" long and alternate overlapping corners so as to
essentially spike the corners together, one over the other. this will keep
the 4' dimension from spreading as one tier fixes itself to the next lower
tier.
This is the construction that seems to be favored by municipal (or other
public) plantings of trees, raised flower beds, et al.
The weight of this structure ON TOP OF THE GROUND seems to hold it all in
place.
The height and size of the bed is quite arbitrary unless you have a
particular soil type that may dictate.
