My sister used tires this year to grow her potatoes.. She 
started with one tire flat on the ground, with dirt in it- she didn't 
cut it in any way.. Once the potatoe plants were bigger , she 
added a second tire and more dirt.. then once more when the 
plants were bigger, she added a third tire and more dirt.. She 
didn't stabilize them in any way- just stacked 'em..

She said harvesting was EASY... she just lifted off the tires 
and there were the potatoes..
