A couple of things come to mind here. The soil in raised beds will dry out
quickly. Lettuce that is growing in soil that has dried out will start to
develope a bitter taste. Try to keep the soil evenly moist throughout the
season. The other thing is the average temperature in the 90's. Lettuce is a
cool weather crop, so even the heat tolerant varieties will need some extra
care in order to prevent bolting at 90 degrees. Try planting the lettuice in
areas that are shaded by taller plants and remember to keep the soil moist.
