You can stop some of the dogs some of the time, all of the dogs some of the
time and some of the dogs all of the time but you can't stop all of the dogs
all of the time. (OK so I paraphrase a little) But remembering that dogs are
as individual as humans, some dogs will respond to control methods. When I
tried electric fencing 8 years ago with my then young and descructive dogs,
one hit the fence once and to this day cannot be convinced to get near a bare
wire anywhere in the yard. The other could be found leaning on it as he chewed
on fresh veggies. That one took a 6 foot fence with a steel cable buried 6
inches underground to stop him from getting out of his area into the garden.
The point is the options are virtually limitless just as the dog's
personalities. I have seen wire fencing, metal stakes in the ground (to make
laying in the area unattractive) metal and/or wood fencing, electric fencing
but I have never seen invisible fencing (LOL)
For chemical control I have seen the following work: tabasco sauce, pepper,
tobacco dust, castor oil and various off the shelf brands with unpronoucable
polysyllabic names. The only thing I would avoid is store bought animal
repellents containing blood meal. This may work great at repelling rabbits
and/or deer but it is a magnet to every stray cat and dog within a dozen miles
or so. Good luck.
