I used newspapers for years in northern NH where we got frost as early
as mid-August. It's kind of a pain because you need to find lots of
little stones to hold it down but it works fine. I've used old sheets,
light (and sometimes not-so-light, depending on the plant) blankets,
anything I have on hand. A couple of years ago I splashed out and got a
Garden Quilt from Gardner's Supply Co. in Vermont. I love it a lot.
Where are you located? I'm in southern-central New Hampshire.
Good luck,
Sherry
