Re: So how did my garden grow in '97?

I think I'd like to rephrase the subject - Re: So how DIDN'T my garden
grow in '97.....

This was my first attempt at a garden and I was intrigued by the sq ft
rumors and decided to have a go at one. It wasn't until AFTER my husband
had bought, assembled and filled our pressurised wood frame that we
learned about many of the concerns associated with pressurised wood. And
that was just the first of our many first hand lessons in what NOT to do
with a garden.

Do not try to start a garden if you are in your 2nd trimester -- you never
know what might happen in your 3rd...like 6 weeks bed rest!

Do not stop covering your seeds after they have sprouted if you have an
outside cat -- seedlings are not much of a deterrent against him thinking
it's a litter-box.

Do not bother trying to raise lettuce seedlings in the house and
transplant them later.

Do not pour a bunch of lettuce seeds down a row in a window box and think
you can thin them out later.

Do not assign young boys with squash bug duty just because you're to
phobic to pick the dang things off yourself.

Do not put off trellising vining plants.

I harvested a handful of cherry tomatoes, about 5 regular tomatoes, one
half of a cucumber, zero zucchini, zero pumpkins, enough basil for one
recipe of pesto, one extremely hot red pepper from what was supposed to be
a sweet red pepper plant, zero lettuce, zero spinach, zero parsley, zero
sunflowers.

Next year should be better, it sure couldn't get any worse.
