Well...
As a brand new SQFT gardener I was very pleased with my garden
overall. Not only for the harvest but for the enjoyment of the garden
itself. Some things did better than others and I will definitely do some
things differently.
Early Girl Tomatoes - Wonderful! I was a little nervous because looking
back I put the transplants out too early. Next year I'm thinking of trying the
Wall o Waters.
Cucumbers - Very good. I learned that I need to water more frequently
but I will definitely plant them again.
Sweet Bell Peppers- So-so. they were definitely damaged by my putting
them out too early. I got maybe a dozen peppers off 6 plants total. I'll try
again next year.
Lettuce & Spinach - Fantastic until it bolted. I'll have to try seeding some
every few weeks to extend my harvest.
Zucchini- too much work to pollinate by hand. I'll have to look into other
varieties.
I'm about ready to rip everything out for winter and could use some
advice to be sure I'm doing the right stuff. Here's my plan: I'm going to
pull all my plants, turn the soil and add lots of compost and humus. Then I
was thinking of covering my raised beds with grass clippings and dried
leaves. Does that sound all right?
