Re: Sweetcorn Spacing

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Olin's corn report was certainly thorough and interesting. I never thought
about the size of the corn plant in relationship to spacing, but obviously
it matters. When I planted 1 plant to 1 sq. ft., I planted Seneca Chief
Hybrid (about a 5-footer) and Funk's G-90 (about a 6-footer). Both produced
prolifically at the close spacing. Many of the plants had two and even
three ears. But---I can see where tall varieties like Country Gentleman
would be less prolific. There is less sunlight hitting leaves because of
the plant height, and the roots are pulling out more nutrition.
Interesting....... What other studies do you have planned, Olin?
