Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I have a question. Here in SE Ohio, we've starting hitting the colder
temps and have had some light frosts the last couple of nights. I know
many of you out there garden year round, but I was raised that old-school
way (long rows, April to October, etc, etc). So, with this being my first
year sq fting it I'm still learning alot.
Here is my question. I planted green onions this spring and by mid summer,
the tops had died off as usual. As usual also, we didn't eat all that I
planted (I'm still trying to figure out *good* amounts to plant for my
family so that we don't waste a lot). Now for whatever reason, I never
pulled the onions we didn't eat. I left them in the ground. Lo and
behold, when I went out last night to pull the remaining peppers and maters
I noticed them onions had started sprouting! They look just like I had
planted them a couple weeks ago with sprouts up to 3-5" out of the ground.
I pulled one and although the bulb was a little mushy on the outside it was
a solid onion, not the rotten thing I had expected to find. Now, can we
still harvest these onions as they seem to be growing again or can I do
something with them to use them as sets for next year? Any tips or ideas
would be greatly appreciated as I'm clueless!!! :-}
TIA,
Kristine
