RE: wire mesh?

Hello Carol,

I use something called "Horse fence". It is much more sturdy than chicken
wire, has openings approximately 2inches by 4inches (so your hands can fit
in to pick the veggies), and comes in a variety of widths and lengths. It
can be cut into sections to make supports and covered with 6ml clear plastic
to create minature/temporary hot houses. It is wonderful stuff. You do
have to have a sharp pair of wire clippers and a good grip to cut it into
sections, but if you spread the chore out over a few days, it's not so bad.

Good luck.

Subject: [Sqft-l] wire mesh?

Hi,

I am new to square foot garden but am enjoyed the lettuce that I have
planted in my autumn square in the UK. (Fall to US readers)

I have a simple question. I need to make the wire cages but cant find
anything in the UK called tomato cage wire as described in Mel's book.
I am currently using some chicken wire, but this is very flimsy and
keeps attaching itself to the other cages and the cats can just jump on
top and it all caves in.

Is there something stronger that I can use and can buy in the UK.
Anyone got any ideas.
Carol
who just loves raw food ;-)))
