We use pvc for both applications here in Utah. But most people use metal for
sprinkling systems out of habit, I think. Although pvc has been used for
them for a few years, I think the jury is still out on their durability.
Most people here drain their systems as best they can in late fall to avoid
breakage from water freezing in them. As far as green house water supply, I
have no Idea how they keep it from freezing. I'd check with professional
growers when you get where your going or if you find a home with an existing
greenhouse they will know about the watering system. Hope that helps.
