Re: real tomatoes.

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I had to read all of the replies before I put my two cents in. Sometimes I
answer when other people have already said what I want to say...boy do I
feel dumb.

I grew both Brandywines and Mortgage Lifters, very similar tomato
(like what you are talking about, ridges etc.)

I, being the new kid on the block, put in drip system in my garden attached
to the timer that waters my lawn. I water everything everyday. All of my
colleagues, told me I was watering my tomatoes too much.

This season we had problems of end rot and splitting, in the Garden of the
Sun (our Master Gardeners garden). In my own garden I grew 7 different
varieties and they were on the drip and watered everyday. I made sure they
got just enough water to keep the ground moist, not soggy. Most important
the ground NEVER got dry.

Results...beautiful...I have never had such luck with tomatoes....eggplant,
bell peppers too.

Hope this helps.
Peg
