Re: Compost!

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

One day, I'll learn how to be a good gardener. Here's my take on compost:

If I threw all my yard waste and kitchen scraps into the trash can, it'd sit
in the landfill for centuries.
If I left my yard clippings and rakings out on the curb, I'd have to
remember what day to put it out there, and buy those big brown bags. Then
the city would compost 'em, and they'd go into somebody else's yard.

So, I got 4 old pallets from behind somebody's shipping dock and nailed 'em
together. After dinner, I throw all of our veggie scraps in there. After I
have my coffee, I toss the filter & grounds in there. When we rake leaves,
we throw that in there. Our ratio of brown to green is very scientific:
(Whatever we rake up) / (The other stuff)

Sometimes I toss something in my compost bin and think, "Gee, it's been a
while since I stirred this stuff" and grab a shovel or a bamboo pole that's
laying around and stir that stuff.

This system will, if strictly followed and put into an electronic day
planner, make perfect compost.
