Another snail deterrent.
cocoa mulch! I buy it at a nursery I frequent, in a fairly big bag.
The shells are a beautiful mulch and when they get wet, they sort on knit
together to form a wonderful barrier for weeds, and moisture barrier.
The best thing about this stuff is...it has a natural copper in the make up
of the cocoa shells. Literally, I have seen snail tracks heading for my
front flower garden, that is moist, and shaded in some spots. When they
come up to the edge where the mulch is I see a little u turn and they just
go away.
The mulch is rather expensive, but I have found it is worth it.
Also I have put copper bands around my pots, there is a chemical reaction
that happens with the snails and the copper, and they are supposed to get an
electric charge. I am going to put copper around my raised beds, but
haven't got around to it.
