Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
>Where do you get them to plant?<
We ordered from Park. THey have Virginia Jumbo (135 days) and Valencia
Tennessee Red (120 days). Cost was 50 seeds for $1.45, 1/4 lb. $2.60, 1/2
lb. for $3.95 and $5.95 a pound. We went the 50 seed route for a 4'x6' bed,
2 to a square just in case one didn't sprout.
>When do you know it is time to pull them out of the ground?
Check the expected days to maturity(120-135) and take a peek at one plant.
As they grow, you can see the pegs form and head toward the ground. I was
reassured when pegs disappeared into the ground and didn't pull out when
given a gentle tug. You can also ask the person at the feed store that
knows a LOT about growing locally. You can't tell from the leaves. I think
they would happily keep growing until they freeze. Those peanuts that have
formed will sprout if they stay underground long enough!
The boiled peanuts I have seen are in shells.
