Tom,

Are you growing CITY LIGHTS?  It's been described as have 
the aroma of root beer.  Doesn't smell like that to me, 
but it does have a nice fragrance compared to most 
irises.  It's blooming normally for me this year - the 
first time it hasn't had frost damage here.
