Janet,

I remembered hearing that Bill Ackerman was quite involved with camellias. I discovered that he named some of the camellias that he originated starting with Ashton, his place of residence; as he did some of his JI introductions. I looked up on the internet and discovered he had written a book titled "Growing Camellias in Cold Climates". I looked it up on Amazon.com.  On their website it states about the author:

"William L. Ackerman earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in horticulture from Rutgers University and Ph.D. in botany from the University of Maryland. Now retired, he served as a research horticulturist at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, DC."

These facts were on website:  www.amazon.com/Growing-Camellias-Climates-William-Ackerman/dp/1561677167

I believe amazon.com to be truthful in their advertising or they could potentially be sued.

Janet,

I ran across a little more info on Dr. Ackerman which might be significant on what you are working on. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in horticulture from Rutgers University and Ph.D. in botany from the University of Maryland. During his professional career, he served as research horticulturist at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, DC.

Subject: [iris-photos] Anyone know who Bill Ackerman was

Hello,

Dave Silverberg and I are looking for information on a Bill Ackerman.
Rosalie Figge's daughter sent me a slide collection (how becoming digitized)
and among the slides was a letter and lovely drawings from Mr. Bill Ackerman.

I can't find any information on this gentleman so I am putting out the request here.

Thank you,
