I used to live near Mammoth Cave, Kentucky.
On cave tours, the guides would explain about the stalactites and the
stalagmites, rock-like formations that are formed by mineral-laden water
dripping from the "ceiling" of the cave to the floor. The stalactites were
the ones hanging from the ceiling -- like icicles hanging from the edge of a
roof -- and the stalagmites "grew" from water that dripped onto the floor.
After eons, they would grow together and form pillars. Looks like you have
ice "stalagmites there!
