Steve, the best way to be sure is to buy another start of LAW from a reputable supplier, grow them side by side, and then compare vein by vein.  Also check the beard, hair by hair, paying attention to where the color breaks etc.  I've done this successfully with registered irises and with seedlings. 
 
At one point, I became confused about some plicata seedlings.  Two of them looked so much alike that I became convinced I'd managed to divide one early on.   I was able to determine that they were indeed siblings, rather than the same cultivar, by using this technique. 
 
But, I've only worked with bearded iris.
