Neil  --  It's interesting that you, Paul and Chuck should all suggest Blyth irises.  Thanks to each of you for the information and suggestions.  I'm partial to Blyth irises and have several, but MAN ABOUT TOWN isn't among them. Thanks for your generous offer to share from among your struggling survivors,  but rather than that, I may select from another of his creations (or derivatives of them) that I have here.  They include AURA LIGHT,  BEACH GIRL, CHINESE TREASURE, TOWN CLOWN, BEAU ZAM, ELECTRIQUE, KNIGHTED, AFFAIRE, WITCHING, NIGHT GAME (Keppel), NIGHT ATTACK (Ghio) and CHAMPAGNE ELEGANCE (Niswonger).  And I think it's time to get some more, but I'd like to buy plants that are already acclimated to the U.S., rather than direct from Oz.  These would include WEARING RUBIES, ANTIQUITY, IN THE STARS, LOUISA'S SONG, WILD VISION, ABOUT TOWN, SOFIA, YES,  and ARIANNA.  Anyone know where these might be available in this quarter of the world?  --  Griff

Griff, I had the same ideas as Paul--using Barry Blyth's lines.  Some of those that are brownish amoenas might be especially interesting.  The best forms, however, are coming from MAN ABOUT TOWN and its family.  LOUISA'S SONG is practically a universal-ptential parent, as is MASTERY.  Any of this group could be quite varied and very fruitful with this seedling. 
 
I have Man About Town, although all my stock of it is about five small fans--had a problem with lots of losses in just about everything TB this year with the rain.  Despite slope, planting on ridges and the like, water tended to collect inside the leaves and eventually just peal the fan off the rhizome.  A lot of the survivors (as in MAT) are from sprouts off the old mothers.
 
If you're interested, I'd be glad to share what I have of it.  It seems to be a very fruitful parent for quality and for variety.  There're other folk on Iris-talk who might have stronger, more mature plants that would share it too.
