Analysis of MV's sedlings absence ofabsence of carotene and anthocyanin in #9

First, thanks to both Chuck and Margie.  This is a great cross to analyze.   Thank you so much for sharing the seedlings Margie, and thanks for spending the time to break it down for us Chuck.

I gathered that not everyone has the photos saved, so I threw together a page so you can scroll down and see the seedlings all on one page.  It will probably load slowly because I found that reducing the photo size greatly altered the quality. Well, for what its worth, I'm going to try and sort through this.   Seedling #9 has both a reduction of anthocyanin and carotene for the most part.  From reading TWOI, it looks like several different locis must be involved.  Since neither parent is white, the dominant I would not be present in either parent (though I sub s is.) That would leave it as one of the recessive white loci since it does not look like a glaciata.    That would lead me to believe that w sub 1 and w sub 2 are involved.   The color in the veins does appear to have some anthocyanin (TWOI p 401), so it is possible that both parents are
W sub 1, w sub 1, w sub , w sub 1 or  possibly one  W sub 1, W sub1, w sub , w sub1.

As to the Carotene inheritance, there is much less info in TWOI.  It could be any one of the y sub 1,2 or 3.  Because the y sub 1 info indicates that only the hafts have carotene, I would guess that y sub 1 might be involved.  I'm going to have to think on this with a clearer head before tossing out any more guesses.  Its getting too late.
