Margie, if I remember correctly, Tom Parkhill will
have an ad in the April AIS Bulletin in the years he has one he is
introducing. I bought MIAH JANE directly from him.
As to its growth, I can say it is a very good
grower, but borer find it tasty, as they do most irises. The foliage has a
good, strong green color and seems a bit more resistant to leaf spot and leaf
blight than many others. That may be a biproduct of location, however, as
it is a corner of the area with extra good air flow. That always
helps.
I've seen no sign of rot either.
My attempts at crosses last year failed--as did
amost all others in many attempts. 2004 was not "an iris'year"--Miah
Jane and Paris Fashion were two of the wonderful exceptions to what was a very
disappointing season due to weather. I've referred to the season as "the
year that wasn't."
El Nino had been trying to form for the last
eighteen months, but now is very firmly in place, although not especially a
strong one. That both explains the astoundingly disturbed weather world
wide, and also suggests a moderately dry year in store for us
here. That would be refreshing, just if it does not go all the way into
drought.
Tom Parkhill's address can, incidentally, be found
in the back of most of the recent R& I's.
