The juicy fruit thing never worked in our Nebraska yard.
Minnesota, however, being known as the gopher state for a reason.  We stayed in  an rv park that was overrun with gopher mounds in the open areas. 
They had a trap that they buried, some way, in the burrow or run, & when it sprung, 3 tines on a spring loaded device went down & speared the gopher. Gopher gone!
