Lawrence  --  I have a couple of valued plants in the same condition as you describe.  Like Annette, I will leave the bloomstalk and any foliage intact, on the theory that they provide nutrients to the rhizome.  I don't know whether more fertilizer will help, but I'll probably try it.  --  Griff

    If it were mind, I would put some bone meal or supper phosphate around it and dig it in. I would water it once a week at 1 inch per watering. And I would leave the bloomstalk in tact. And I would pray.
