Thank you to all who helped me to ID the trees on my hill. The nurseryman confirmed that it was a Catalina Cherry. Now I am taking bets on how long it will be before every cherry dissapears because of the squirrel problem. I am sure that I willl never see a ripe cherry. But at least I know what it is.
