Hi John

I think the more shade the better. Mine get about 2 hours of sun a day. PCI are a little touchy here in the heat. In July and August I try to keep them moist by watering every other day. The dry wind is a bad factor for us. My suggestion would be to go with raised bed under the big trees. Good luck hope they do as good for you as they have done for me
