I think the more shade the better. Mine get about 2 hours of sun a day.
PCI are a little touchy here in the heat. In July and August I try
to keep them moist by watering every other day. The dry wind is a bad factor
for us. My suggestion would be to go with raised bed under the big trees.

along the border of a raised semi-shaded bed with lot of over hanging brances.
I sure am going to give it a try.............
