Re: Battlestar (was Boss Tweed)

Yes Laurie, I realized as soon as it opened that it wasn't Battlestar. I should have made that clear in my post. That sure messed up my Sci-Fi garden. The point I meant to make was that my "Battlestar" looked more like the description of Boss Tweed.

Hi Pearl - I noticed that your picture of Battlestar looks very different from what I grow up here.  It's listed as a space age iris, with cinnamon standards and violet falls.

Jan and Linda, I have two iris from the same place, one labled Boss Tweed, the other Battlestar. My Boss Tweed is the darker one with the violet spot. My Battlestar looks exactly like it, but is more honey tan with no voilet. I thought it was the same iris when it first bloomed. Below are pictures of the two.

Linda,

I believe that this iris is too red to be Boss Tweed.  The Checklist says:

Boss Tweed (James McWhirter, R. 1992) TB, 38" M.  Ruffled honey tan brown, white area under gold beards, slight fragrance.  Arabian Tapestry x Role Model.  Cottage 1993

Your picture shows a red-brown iris with a violet area under the beard.   When mine bloomed it was much more honey.

So I went on-line to Google Images and typed iris + Boss Tweed.  It pulled up a mixture of tan and red-brown irises.  Mine looked like the honey-tan with white under the beard.  Yours looks like the red-brown with violet under the beard.
