RE: photo: 2 seedlings from an attempt to bring more blue to I stolonifera


I know little about that kind of iris, but those are really beautiful, especially the first one.  Its standards look like the wings of some exotic bird.

I like the magenta, violet, and dark brown colorings of I. stolonifera, but through selecting clones and intercrossing them, I wanted to soften the coloring of the standards of I. stolonifera.  Two seedlings I've liked and kept are pictured below.

 

Elm

 

This seedling has lighter cocoa-colored edges on the standards.  The blue centers are wide and a light color that has some pinkish lavender influence:

 

 

This seedling has milk chocolate edging on the standards, and the blue of the standards is closer to blue.  The fall colors on this second one are darker:
