True enough, Betty. A dozen or so years ago,
I was excited about a first-blooming golden yellow seedling whose
brilliance eclipsed everything else in the garden and which had a flower
texture that made the round petals look like old gold coins. I had a name
all picked out for it. The next year, it was just another yellow
-- no pizzazz at all. It was several years before it appeared again
in its original guise. By then, its fickleness had turned me off.

Griff, I've learned
the same lesson, too, but it can go both ways. I've had them look very
promising in the beginning and then tank. Lots of surprises
in hybridizing.

Talk about embarassment! Yesterday, I
asked if anyone could ID an untagged iris in my garden. Today,
sdlg 032G2, registered as 'Romania, Romania', bloomed nearby, and, yep,
without all the raindrops, that's who it is. I had replanted part of a
clump and neglected to enter it on the bed map. At any rate, here's
'Romania, Romania' today, without the raindrops. I plan to introduce
