Sharon, It's funny but back when the horse trough (an old bathtub) froze a inch thick several times in January we would dump the ice onto the lilacs.  It hasn't gotten that cold here for about 20 years.
So, I wasn't totally joking.  It is a possibility but having to make ice cubes in the house and take them out just isn't going to happen.
Oh well, I'll have to wait for the TB's.

Jan -- I'm sure you're joking, but chunks of ice were my "secret weapon" for getting SDB bloom in southern NM.  On very cold mornings, the dog's water pan would be iced over.  Fragments of broken ice scattered around SDBs significantly increased the bloom ratio.

Of course, the dog was a St. Bernard and his water pan was a standard stock tank next to the SDB bed so we're talking about more than a few ice cubes.....

Chuck,  Magnificent!  Now when can you get this flower combo onto an IB, BB, or TB so it will grow here in So.Cal., the land without cold enough winters??  Do you think that ice cubes would work?
