Here in Arizona I can still transplant iris into the ground and still get bloom in the Spring IF - I don't disturb the root system.  The same goes for planting them in pots.
 
Once I transplanted them as late as early January - to see what would happen. (without disturbing the root system) And they still bloomed that same spring, however the stalks were shorter and the blooms were smaller............. so I probably wouldn't do that again - - unless I really HAD to. I hope this helps to answer your question.
