I really hadn't planned to dig another new iris bed this year, but just couldn't resist the Big Dig deal from BB.

 

I just live about 40 miles down the road from Donald Eaves so if you have been following his planting episodes you can see that our little corner of the world isn't gardening friendly. I dig these big boulders out then fill the beds with good soil. I'm never sure if I have just a boulder or the top of the mountain I live on.

 

Now it's not all bad. I water from the lake you see in the background. This porous rocky ground is always well-drained. Someone told me I'm just re-cycling the water from the lake. I think that is more true than I like to admit.
