{Disarmed} Re: Hyb: seedling

Colleen  --  WEARING RUBIES is a slow increaser here, but, like you,  I have crossed it with some of my red selfs and red amoenas.  Next year will be the first opportunity to see its progeny, if then.  But, of course, I'm hoping for good things.

I hope that your irises survive the drought.  The weather forecast for most of the U.S. for the coming 12 months is much warmer than usual.  But for the upper South Atlantic seaboard, the forecast is for equal chances for above-normal temperatures or not.  I, of course, would like to see a prolonged cold winter with lots of snow cover.  That's unusual here, though.  A mild, rainy winter is the worst for my irises.  --  Griff

HI Griff

My Wearing Rubies died but I have crossed it with Romantic Gentleman. Haven't seen the results yet.

I must say, Colleen, that none of mine would look that good after having been sat on.  That's substance, indeed!  Linda Mann, take notice!

Kidding aside, it's interesting to see a red self coming out of that parentage.  I notice some velvet on the falls, too.  What if you crossed it with WEARING RUBIES or something else with very broad/round velvet falls?  --  Griff

Here's one I've been sitting on for a while, but it is standing up well to our rough season.
Gualdajarax Epicentre. Big strong plant 6 buds this season, when everything is low on bud count, about 7 other years. Photos from the last 2 years, showing the colour is very consistent.
