{Disarmed} Need help re: seedling bed

Hi, Our son, just today, built me a 2' X 4' box to plant seed in. I was able to only make a few crosses this season.  What, pray tell, can I paint this plywood box with that won't inhibit the germination of the seed yet will prevent the plywood from falling apart from moisture?  I know there must be some very knowledgeable Iris folks out there who have some good suggestions.  My husband (76 yrs young) has some very major health problems and I  have to do all the garden work. Any suggestions could be helpful! Hoping to hear from you soon.
