Overhere there aren't any of these happenings, no iris societies alive enought to organise such venues, and  "flower arrangement" was for me only a posh way of calling a bouquet...
 
But since you are opening my eyes on a whole world i didn't know of, i'm ready to learn.
 
I definitely would perfet to enter the artistic part of the competitions, seems more fun to me!

I know that many of you "hort" specialists look down on arrangements but the Artistic part of our shows attracts many viewers.  I do enter both Hort and Artistic.  The Hort is so dependent upon timing - a bloom which opens a day early or a day late can ruin your chances of a ribbon.  In Artistic you have much more control over what happens.  There is also a challenge to following the theme and rules for the arrangement.  In Hort it is growing, grooming, and timing.  In Artistic, you are the one who makes or breaks the result, not wind, rain, breakage trying to get the stalk into the car, etc.
 
And yes men do enter artistic and are very good at making arrangements.  They tend to be more bold in their approach to the use of materials.  In our shows the majority of people who enter Artistic also enter Hort.  The real challenge is to try to win Queen of Show in Hort and Best of Show in Artistic in the same show.  
 
Be brave and try an arrangement sometime.  They are often what makes iris (and other flowers) be grown by people who buy your rhizomes.  At Schreiner's and Cooley's there are wonderful arrangements during their spring open houses because they know what sells iris.  I am attaching a photo of an arrangement in the showroom of Cooley's at the 2006 National Convention.  You can see why it triggers orders to show iris this way.

Maybe there are more irises like that, since i'm into breeding with RE, i would like to know the ones that crawl when thy rebloom!
