I know I'm not in your severe climate but JB did wierd thing for me as well.
Although it increased like mad, it produce normal bloom on onlt 2 stalks of the 12 that came up.  Had 5 falls 2 standards, no standards, no beards, almost decided to scrap it when a normal one opened and couldn't do it
