Re: Iris furcata and Iris perrieri

Edmundas,
Thank you for sharing that information. It is very interesting. I'm
wondering if what I have is really Iris furcata or maybe a clone of
Iris aphylla. I wish my memory were better....I just looked at the
two irises labeled Iris furcata and Iris perrieri about an hour ago
and noticed that both had flower stalks with branches coming from the
base of the fan. If I'm remembering right, the supposed Iris furcata
was the one with two stalks (a stalk and a branch) and purple
spathes. And the Iris perrieri was the one with three stalks (one
stalk and two branches) and green spathes. But either way, both of
these irises have basal branching. If Iris furcata doesn't branch
from the base of the fan, I may have a mislabelled clone of Iris
aphylla.
The bloomtime would be right to distinguish it from Iris pumila, as
my Iris pumila has been finished blooming for close to two weeks, and
the supposed Iris furcata has not opened yet. Also the branching, I
would think, would distinguish it from pumila.
I will have to keep an eye on these irises to see about flower
characteristics and fertility with diploids.
Thank you again for your help.
Tom
