RE: Linkage of beard color and flower color

Chuck; You might want to rethink the situation as to whether Kupari has a dominant Amoena gene. the purple self, Iris suaveolens with which it was crossed carries a dominant amoena gene. This is not expressed in suavelens, but most if not all of its crosses with other bearded iris have produced amoenas. Therefore there is no reason to suspect Kupari as carrying this trait. Of course it may have it but so far what you have seen only backs up the past history of suaveolens and does not provide any evidence for Kupari.

Thanks. Observations such as this is very helpful.
I suspect that Kupari is a dominat amoena but anthocyanin is supressed by glaciata genetics but when influence of plicata genes are removed by a cross to a non plicata iris, the effects show. Obviously the dominant amoena also removes anthocyanin from the beards in this case. When I think of it, this is often the case with amoenas. I need to check this further.
Very interesting.
