Subject: 'Tid-bit' - I. pallida cengialtii?

Hi all,

I've been digging through pedigrees of some MTB cultivars and find one named 'Tid-bit' coming up a lot.  It is a common parent to several that look a lot like I. pallida cengialtii.  I was wondering if anyone has a photo of this one and/or knows where it might be available.  It was being used in MTB breeding at least till the late 1980's (I don't have any AIS checklists newer that the 1989 volume).

Judging from its offspring, I would suggest that this may well be another clone of I. pallida cengialtii.

In the 1939 AIS Check List, it is listed as follows (but this doesn't help identify it any):

TID-BIT. DB-M-B1M (Sturt. 1925)
[translates to a dwarf-bearded, mid-season flowering, medium blue self]

Two plicata offspring from it, both of which "look" like I. pallida cengialtii morphologically are:

DOLL RIBBONS 1979 "(M. Dunderman, R. 1977). Sdlg. X105. MTB, 20"" (51 cm), M."    "White with narrow dark violet-blue plicata edging around all petals; white beard, light yellow in center, T432 purple: (Tid-Bit x N620 purple) X T67 dark blue-violet: (K245 blue x N622 dark purple). Dunderman 1978."  [add spathes papery translucent pale brown]

and

LADY BELLE 1989 "(W. T. Varner, R. 1986). Sdlg. K-321. MTB, 22"" (55 cm), EM. "      "S. white with purple sanding at base; very light purple styles and crests; F. white, stitched purple, heavier at hafts and lighter toward lower tip; white beard tipped yellow. Tid-Bit X Dunderman O-195 white. Riverdale Iris 1986."  [add spathes papery translucent pale brown]

At this point I know nothing about the various listed parents, but it would be interesting to learn more about them, if possible.  It appears that, except for 'Tid-bit' those listed are unnamed and unregistered.

Any ideas or comments on this.

Thanks,
Dave
