Re: weird foetidissima behavior

Hi Dennis
Often stressed plants will set seed when all else fails. I remember an elderly friend of mine would tell me if the plant does not want to set seed give it a hard time by bending it this way and that (a lily at the time) and perhaps hold off on the water as well and it may very well set seed.

Subject: [iris-species] weird foetidissima behavior

Slowly but surely my clumps of Iris foetidissima have wasted away on one
side of my house.  As I was replanting with some native Scutellaria species
earlier today I kept finding Iris seedlings.  Never in all these years have
those Iris foetidissima plants self-seeded.  Now, when they're dead, they
have.  How very very strange.
