I dug some irises yesterday and thought it might be fun to show
comparisons in their roots & rhizomes.
The first one is a Louisiana Iris called "My Friend Dick". Just look
at the growth that can occur in just one season! This is probably
THE MOST vigorous Louisiana I've grown to date.
The second one is an Iris x robusta "Cast Ashore". The sheer
quantity of roots makes it hard to clean for shipping. I'm guessing
the root production was a sign it was happy?
The third one is Iris virginica var. shrevei. Unfortunately the
photo does not quite convey just how hairy the rhizomes are.
