Re: OK Fulva

I don't understand what happens to your messages sometimes--two lines spread out to eternity. I also get a chunk of advertising gunk in the middle of it that I thought kept me from seeing "cristata in bloom" but now, in this reply, it shows up. Sorry about the loss of your pictures. I grow fulva here with no special attention, but, of course, not in the wild. I didn't know palms or even cristata grew in OK. Hope you'r all healed up.        Joan Cooper    Minnesota    Zone 4

Subject: [iris-species] OK Fulva

Hey gang, I just got from a thousand mile jaunt to the Oklahoma/Arkansas border. Cristata was in bloom in both the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains. I usually see lots of variation but only saw pale blues this trip. Some were very pale and most had a nice dark halo on the falls. My camera, along with myself, took a tumble on a gravel road. Lots of bruises and scratches, but even worse, most of the iris photos disappeared from the camera. There was a near white with a very dark halo I wanted to show you. Que sera sera.

The primary reason for the trip was to look for native palms in Oklahoma, yes we found them. I should have known but just never thought of I. fulva as growing in OK. It was growing abundantly along side the palms. It wasn't in flower but I HAD to dig some anyway just to grow here and see if there is anything special about it. Fulva was also growing in just about any ditch or low spot that held water. Unfortunately there were few roads wide enough to stop on and I was not prepared to go wade in the water.
