Bob,

I just took these digital pics of a pod of the versicolor, BETWEEN THE
LINES, cross-sectioned.

Here are several cross-sections of the same pod:

As you can see, there appear to be only three chambers with generally two seeds side-by-side per chamber, except toward the ends of the pod where there seem to be only enough room for one seed per chamber. I'm just not seeing six chambers here.

By comparison, here is a cross-section of a more mature pod of the Siberian, PANSY PURPLE:

Perhaps it's just my untrained eye at work, but I'm not seeing a whole lot of difference between the structure of the versicolor and that of the Sib except that the Sib pod has a lot more pod flesh separating the chambers.

Curiously, I also cross-sectioned a pod from the flat Sib, ROKU OJI, which seemed to have three chambers with three seeds side-by-side per chamber. Unfortunately, the seeds fell out as I was trying to position it for photographing.

What am I missing?

Laurie
