Iris foetidissima

I have Iris foetidissima planted along the east & west sides of my
house. I was surprised this summer to watch all the clumps on the east
side die out. The plants on the west side are totally healthy. My best
guess is that my cats are killing them with urine, but I don't know for
sure. There could be something bad in the soil, or it could be
disease. Anyway, I thought it was strange and worth mentioning. Maybe
other folks have had foetidissma die out en masse this year?
