In my mind, the term "spec-x" conjures up unusual, uncommon, or
breakthrough crosses... like Paltec, or Little Caillet... irises that
don't fit in another category.

Dolce doesn't even compare. Now if one of those culitvars in its
pedigree is a Siberian or versicolor or something, well then that's a
whole 'nother story!

I wasn't impressed with last year's winner either, Alpha Gnu.
