Re: Re: Source List

Joan: Iris mandschurica was distributed this summer by the Aril Society International plant eschange. Your desire for a soutce list may come in the fall SIGNA. As part of the SIGNA species survey I intend to survey commercial gardens that offer Iris species and selected botanical gardens since I am really interested in how species are represented in the gardens of our members but in gardens in general. If we are to see species continue many may see their last chances within gardens. If there are sources that have rare species I will ask them first but hope that they will be willing to have their special plants offered through SIGNA.

Hi all,

I've received a nice little clump of Iris mandchurica and I'm now looking for as much info as I can get.

I know it is a woodland plant from Ussuri region of USSR, Manchurica and Korea. I've checked and these areas appear to have summer heat and monsoons with cold dry winters. The soil may be loess. I know it is a Psammiris. I've planted it in a clay pot with a mixture of peat, pumice and sand below and a layer of shale above. I know those areas get up to 40" of rain so I've watered it good.

With all that said has anyone had any sucess or failures with this plant or any info I should know? Help.

Cindy
