Re: Fwd: Iris latifolia

This is the "English" iris. A cousin to the "Dutch" iris and "Spanish"
iris, all bulb iris. They have all been hybridized.

But this variation, with odd spots and deformed petals is not an
uncommon occurrence. Just has to do with health and climate conditions.
Some years a lot of this sort of thing. Some years all plants are
happy, and all would then be uniformly shaped and coloured.

Hello Jean,
I was in Lofoten islands in northern Norway last week, visiting museums
and
historic gardens. Theese two irises (see attached pictures) grow in one
of
the historic gardens there.

They are obviolusly different, but can anyone tell me if this is just
natural variation, or have Iris latifolia been bred to produce
cultivars?

Greetings from
Mari in Norway
