Re: HYB: question - aphylla, black, hafts

The aphyalla are in background of all blacks, somewhere. Bob Schreiner
wrote a classic article on this, way back when. Can look up reference
if needed.

The clearer hafts on darker plants may just be a result of more
pigment, covering more area, in lighter foem of pigment , may not
appears as clean.

Subject: [iris-species] HYB: question - aphylla, black, hafts

From discussion on iris-talk, black irises have cleaner hafts (less
conspicuous veining on light ground) than many other colors. I didn't
get a response to this question in that forum (yet) so thought I would
 try here.

I've heard it said that the black pigmented irises trace back to I.
 aphylla.

Just wondering... if black irises can contribute cleaner hafts, do most
non-black irises with a lot of aphylla ancestry have fairly clean
hafts?

 Compared to other species....

 Thanks.
